In this article I show you some tips on how to change the spark plug wires of the Chery Orinoco A3.
This product is no longer in stock
- A 5/8 "x 30cm long spark plug wrench.
It is important that the spark plug wrench has the rubber that retains it so that it can be removed from the chamber.
- The four new spark plugs
Remove the spark plugs one by one by turning the key counterclockwise.
Check the state of the same, it must be something white on the side of the electrode indicating that there is good combustion.
Fit the new spark plug and press it to adjust clockwise. Do not over tighten, remember that the heating expands the materials and when it cools it contracts. This movement will further tighten the spark plug and could micro-fracture the chamber. (Be careful with this bad practice)
In spite of this being a quite seen topic in Internet, today I put to test what many people take for granted that, when changing the cables of spark plugs, also it is necessary to replace the cables. This is not entirely correct and we are going to why.
The spark plug wire is designed to carry the high voltage current generated by the coil to the spark plug, and that is why the insulation is so thick. It allows you to withstand high voltage without leakage and engine heat. Then usually as the cable is not moving it can easily withstand up to two spark plug changes.
It is quite simple if we have a multimeter at home that measures resistance. So here I show a table that tells us the range of resistance that should have the cable to consider it is in good condition:
|Resistance k ohms||6,99 a 12,08||5,32 a 9,59||3,92 a 7,48||3,4 a 6,71|
If you measure the cables and are within those values, they are considered to have good conditions.
Check the external part, which should not have signs of:
- Bumps or cracks
- Expired insulation
- White powder that is a symptom of sulfation
As you can see it is quite simple to check the condition of the cables and it allows us to save some money in not discarding cables that are in optimal conditions.
Here is the video of how I did it.
